German 1 and 2
Purpose: To introduce the basics of the German language in the areas of speaking, understanding, reading, and writing. To show the importance of the study of the culture of the German-speaking nations and touch on the geography, history and literature of the German-speaking people. To take the student from zero and provide him/her with a foundation on which he/she could build a fluency in the language

German 3 and 4
Purpose: Based on a strong foundation, to develop skills in the German language, that will enable one to speak, understand, read and write more proficiently with each year of study. To connect with other cultures and study the geography, history and literature of the German-speaking people more intensely. To prepare the student for the college language experience.
Latin
Purpose: To gain the ability to understand, write and read the Latin language on an elementary level. To use Latin to reinforce English vocabulary as an aid toward SAT success and to see the influence antiquity has made on contemporary society. Latin is introduced in the tenth grade and is studied in conjunction with the student's foreign language. It is part of the enrichment program of the World Language Department.
